It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas as the Eccleshall Ladies strode onto the Gnosall pitch in the red shirts of Whitchurch Ladies due to a kit clash.
Eccleshall played hosts to Buckingham Swans at the weekend. The home side knew that this was going to be a tough game and were determined not to suffer the same defeat they had at the Bucks ground earlier in the season.
The Swans started well with convincing ball retention. A penalty saw them take it quickly down the blind side and place the first score on the board. The conversion was missed.
Eccleshall came back with venom and a nicely collected line out saw the pack controlled by forward of the match, Victoria Haynes, driving the ball forward through into the Buckingham 22. Alice Hodgkinson released the backs with some quick ball. Back of the match, Sabrina McGill, who is usually found in the back row, burrowed her way over the line as Eccleshall's replacement centre due to Rachel Hodgkinson being out through injury. Unfortunately the conversion from Meadhbh Westwood hit the post and bounced back infield.
Continued pressure from the Eccleshall pack forced Buckingham to clear their lines on more than one occasion.
Following the restart at half time, Eccleshall fought hard at the breakdown but were unlucky not to convert their effort into points, which is a credit to the Buckingham defence. Neither side managed to put any more points past their opposition during the second half.
